hygge book inspiration

Inspiring Read

I am lucky to be spending a wonderful hygge winter Saturday afternoon at home, flanked by my two cuddly cats, Henry and Percy. I am on page 79 of In the Company of Women, by Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge, and I am already so inspired that I am going to have to take a long walk, just to absorb what I have read so far. It is not easy starting a small business, I now know that from experience. This summer/fall, I quickly launched my Etsy shop, VictoriaBDesignShop, because I had the luxury of time in between jobs. I knew that I had to take advantage of the free time, and that I had to act fast. I did it, and it was both exhausting and exhilarating. I am now stepping back to assess the experience and decide how I want to proceed. (I am currently selling nature-inspired wearable art, in the form of hand-painted silk scarves.) My idea sketchbooks and journals, of course, are bursting with even more ideas. At the same time, I just started a new job and am learning a whole new skill set in the non-profit sector. It is a challenging and rewarding time, and this book is exactly what I need to be reading right now. It is filled with inspiration and advice from more than 100 diverse artists, makers, and entrepreneurs who have so much wisdom to share. (Thank you Grace! Thank you, ladies!) I highly recommend you read this book! I just know you will enjoy it!
